The Most Beautiful Bookstore In The World

I am writing this post from Porto, Portugal, home of Livraria Lello–the world’s most beautiful bookstore. The store was founded 150 years ago in 1869 and has been selling a variety of Portuguese language titles and translated works ever since.

It is famous for its staircase, seen here:

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is also famous for its translated thriller offerings. This whole section was dedicated to some of my favorite authors: Lou Berney, Megan Abbott, Ragnar Jónasson…. and so many others.
I hope one day a Portuguese translated version of one of my books might grace these shelves!

In the meantime, I’ll have to just keep looking up at the stained glass and wood ceilings and dreaming.
