Well, actually, a book I wrote, Love Among the Ruins, won a Golden Crown Literary Society GOLDIE for the Best Contemporary Romance-Long. Needless to say, I’m thrilled.
Love Among the Ruins was a finalist in two categories—The Ann Bannon Popular Choice and the Best Contemporary Romance-Long. The Ann Bannon is voted on by the membership of the GCLS, while the romance category is a judged award. I was honored to final for the Bannon, but I didn’t expect to win.
And if you look at the picture taken by my editor when the romance award was announced, you’ll see I was shocked.
This was my second GOLDIE, the first, The Disappearance of Lindy James, was for Best General Fiction. While all four of my NYPD Detective Chiara Corelli mysteries have been finalists for a GOLDIE and/or a LAMMY (a Lambda Literary award) for Best Mystery, none have won. But there’s always next year.
The award arrived in the mail today so it’s on my mind. I’m sharing this with you because I’m proud. Sitting here chipping away at, Blood of the Innocents, the fifth Corelli mystery, it’s nice to receive the recognition and the assurance that some readers out there appreciate the effort.
